Sebenza is the Zulu word for "Work". The company was incorporated in 1989 but lay dormant until September 1993, when the present owners commenced business. Initially specializing in over-border transport into southern Africa, activities evolved to those associated with a traditional customs broker and freight forwarder.

Currently Sebenza Freight Services has about 80 regular clients and handles air and sea freight from and to South Africa from all corners of the globe. We have an established network of independent agents all over the world, but Western Europe and Australia are particular strengths, as we have our sister offices in the Netherlands and Perth, Australia.

In a restructuring in 2006, Sebenza Freight Services was sold to a holding company in the Netherlands and is now owned off-shore. At the same time Mrs. Debbie Mouton took up shares in the Company and was appointed as Director.

Under her capable management Sebenza Freight Services has shown steady growth through the acquisition of a number of medium sized clients in South Africa as well as the expansion of business between the three sister offices.

The company has two delivery vehicles that are special knowledge and expertise in the conveyance of hazardous chemicals and also regularly handling the shipment of licensed firearms. Both delivery vehicles are fully compliant with all Hazchem regulations, their drivers having been trained as Hazchem drivers. Sebenza also regularly handles the export of privately owned firearms and the temporary import of hunting rifles.

Sebenza Freight Services is privileged to have the services of two non-executive Directors on its Board: Mr. B .J. Pieters is the retired former Managing Director of Suprachem, then a division of Iscor; Mr. P.D. Buwa is a businessman with extensive experience in the freight industry and property development.

Our company has an active policy of social responsibility: we have for many years operated a scheme where school leavers are employed in the company and trained, both on the job and through after hours formal courses, to become fully qualified freight forwarders. Over the past fifteen years Sebenza has given many a young man a career for life, something of which we are rightly proud.
